Our puppy school program, offered at all of our Peninsula Vet Care locations, provides a safe and friendly learning environment for you and your puppy. You will be given the information you need to help your puppy grow into a healthy, well rounded, lifelong companion.
Studies of canine behaviour have found that the most vital stage of a puppy’s development occurs between 8 and 14 weeks of age. This crucial time in your puppy’s development sets the foundation for many of their behaviour and socialisation patterns they develop as they get older. Puppy and dog behaviour is also very different from that of humans, so understanding your puppy’s needs and how to help them develop into the loyal, well-behaved companion we want them to be, is one of the benefits of what puppy school can do.
You will learn the basics of canine behaviour, including advice on less desirable puppy behaviours and the importance of recognising canine body language. Using reward-based training methods, our nurses will demonstrate how to teach basic commands such as sit, drop, stay, look, respond to name plus many more. More importantly, your puppy will be given the vital opportunity to interact with other puppies in a safe and positive environment, and you will be given the support you need to get your puppy off to the right start!
Puppy schools are run at each of our hospitals weekly, simply contact your local Peninsula Vet Care Hospital today.
